02 18527, Main Street, Dovercourt (1899) Poulton's FW

Picture
18527, Main Street, Dovercourt (1899) produced by Poulton's

A late Victorian view of Dovercourt High street, looking West, with a tree marking the sight of the Lloyds Bank and a small house on the sight of the Co-operative Building. At this point in time, the linear development of the town centre was from East to West starting from the bottom of Orwell Terrace.
Later postcards shown a more familiar view with change of domestic dwellings into retail outlets, sadly the reverse is now occurring, with the development of "out-of-town" retailing, at the expense of smaller local shops.
