1902 Coronation silver leopard by Edward Barnard & Sons, the collard engraved Coronation 1902, underside of front paw numbered 168., Commissioned by the Skinner Company their interest being that the emblem of the Guilds crest was a spotted leopard, registered as the Kemp leopard after Roger Kemp who was master of the Guild in 1680, 19 cm overall length.

This stunning figure is seven and a half inches long, four inches high and is hallmarked to the tail for Edward Barnard. It weighs 288g.The collar has CORONATION 1902 SKINNER CO. H K NEWTON ESQ MA written on it.

It was owned by H.K.Newton who later became a Conservative Party Member of Parliament for Harwich.
Sir Harry Kottingham Newton, 2nd Baronet (2 April 1875 – 22 June 1951) was a British politician. He was elected (MP) for Harwich in 1910, a seat he held until 1922.Newton was educated at Rugby School and New College, Oxford. He served in the Second Boer War with a City volunteer regiment when his father was Lord Mayor. He was a Lieutenant of the city of London and a director of Harrods. He died in June 1951, aged 76.

Sir Arthur Levy Lever

1st Baronet (17 November 1860 – 23 August 1924), known as Arthur Levy until 1896, was a Liberal Party politician in England.
Lever was Member of Parliament (MP) for Harwich from 1906 to January 1910. He was returned to the House of Commons at the 1922 general election as National Liberal MP for Hackney Central, but stood down at the 1923 general election. Born Arthur Levy, he assumed the surname of Lever in lieu of Levy by deed poll in 1896 and by Royal license in 1911. In 1911 he was made a Baronet, of Hans Crescent in Chelsea. His elder brother Maurice Levy was also a Liberal politician and was created a Baronet in 1913

History repeats itself.... In 1906 the Harwich Conservative committee room supporting Harry Newton was also occupied upstairs by a Liberal supporter of Arthur Lever the Liberal candidate who was eventually elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Harwich in 1906. The atmosphere at the doorway downstairs must have been tense, as it was a closely fought election, with the Liberals beating the Conservatives, although this was reversed in 1910.

Arthur Lever served as a Justice of the Peace in Essex. In 1906 he was appointed to the Royal Commission on Coast Erosion and Afforestation, serving until 1911. He lost his Harwich seat to the Conservatives at the January 1910 General Election. At the December 1910 General Election he stood unsuccessfully at Wolverhampton South. In 1911 he was made a Baronet, of Hans Crescent in Chelsea. He was a Member of the London War Pensions Committee. He was returned to the House of Commons at the 1922 general election as National Liberal MP for Hackney Central, he eventually stood down at the 1923 general election.

Harry Newton, 2nd Baronet (2 April 1875 – 22 June 1951) was a British Conservative politician. He was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Harwich in 1910, a seat he held until 1922. He died in June 1951, aged 76.
