This photograph taken looking West, was taken shortly after the opening of the Cliff Pavilion in 1931.
The Cliff Hotel may be seen to the right, while lines of coloured bulbs, are stretched and strung out across the cliffs, that would have beautifully illuminated the sea front at night.
This postcard was part of the Bell's Photography series, from Leigh-on-sea , who produced cards for 45 years from around 1905 though to 1950. Sadly it was one of the last series taken of Dovercourt prior to World War Two.
The post war period austerity, led to this series being reissued on lower quality printed card (as seen in card number #139694) compared to the pre-war high quality real photographs mainly seen here, this decision led to poor sales and the subsequent closure of the company in the early 1950's.
