Queen Victoria's Statue
Marine Parade, Dovercourt Bay, Essex

Another Dovercourt Icon

Queen Victoria's Statue, Marine Parade, Dovercourt

This statue of Queen Victoria was built in 1904, it's constructed of white marble on a white granite plinth with bronze lettering. Similar statues of Queen Victoria can be seen across all parts of the former British Empire. This shows the popularity that Queen Victoria had within her empire.

The statue was unveiled on Saturday June 11th, 1904, by the Earl of Warwick, dedicated to the memory of the beloved Queen Victoria who had died three years earlier. It's a life-size figure of Queen Victoria carrying orb and sceptre (sadly partly damaged) with the crown missing. It has a slightly tapering plinth on 2 white granite steps, all set on large rubble base, built out from natural cliff face.

British Listed Buildings: Grade II.
Date Listed: 18 April 1994.
English Heritage Building ID: 366603

Queen Victoria died at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, on 22 January 1901 after a reign which lasted almost 64 years, then the longest in British history. Her son, Edward VII succeeded her.

I have also attached a few rare photos and a letter written by Queen Victoria in 1889.
